Today, the Professional Aviation Safety Specialists, AFL-CIO (PASS) is announcing the results of the election of the union’s national leaders. Both Mike Perrone, the current national president, and Rich Casey, the current national vice president, were successful in their bids for reelection.

PASS Vice President at NHCFAE Annual Conference

On July 28, PASS National President Rich Casey attended the 2015 National Hispanic Coalition of Federal Aviation Employees (NHCFAE) Annual Conference in Atlanta. This annual conference is a gathering of NHCFAE members representing every level of the agency from entry-level employees to senior-level executives. The conference consists of training, career and skill advancement sessions, presentations, and discussions on a variety of topics of importance to FAA employees.

PASS Team Keeps Data Comm on Track

Data Communications, or Data Comm, is a foundational program within the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) and is slated to go IOC (Initial Operating Capability) on August 7, 2015, at Salt Lake City. In May, PASS President Michael Perrone visited Newark to attend a press conference with Michael Huerta to discuss the importance of this program to achieve NextGen benefits.

A New York Save: AED-Trained Member on the Scene

On June 15, a day like any other, PASS Chapter NE3 member Robert Lynn was working at the New York Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) facility, where he also serves as the Communications unit PASS representative. However, what started out as a typical day quickly changed when Lynn’s coworker, Neil O’Toole, an air traffic controller, suffered sudden cardiac arrest. When Air Traffic Operations Manager Jeffrey Brooks ran into the equipment room looking for someone trained on the Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Lynn knew he had to take action.

Aeronautical Center Notifications Now Available

Thanks to the efforts of PASS working with Aeronautical Center leadership, personnel and students at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center may now opt-in to receive email notifications and/or text messages to any SMS-enabled phone regarding various events and emergencies that occur at the Aeronautical Center. This has been an area of concern for some time now and PASS has worked to bring attention to the issue.
