“As long as I am able, I will always help to make a difference.” These words serve as a personal motto for Chapter IN3 member Bridget Turner. Much like Florida PASS members Anthony Finklea and Doug Lowe earlier this month, Turner helped organize and facilitate an Aviation Career Education (ACE) Academy summer program last week. Held in Indianapolis, Turner volunteered her time to participate in the ACE program, which is intended to have a positive impact on the lives of middle and high school aged students who have career aspirations in aerospace and aviation.
Giving back to local communities and having a positive impact on others are characteristics on which PASS members have always prided themselves. Last week, Florida PASS members Anthony Finklea and Doug Lowe took it upon themselves to help coordinate and participate in the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals (OBAP) Aviation Career Education (ACE) Camp in Orlando. OBAP’s ACE Academy, which is endorsed by the FAA, provides middle and high school students opportunities to learn more about careers in aviation.
In late June, members of the PASS Air Traffic Organization (ATO) Safety Team held a national meeting in Atlanta, Ga., that coincided with the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) conference and exposition. The ASSE conference is an annual event providing an opportunity for Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) professionals to learn from recognized speakers, visit with vendors and informational booths, and connect with other safety professionals. The event in Atlanta was the ideal chance for the ATO Safety Team not only to meet and plan for the future, but also to learn important safety-related information and updates.
Today, the Professional Aviation Safety Specialists, AFL-CIO, the union that represents over 11,000 Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) employees, is praising lawmakers for passing FAA reauthorization legislation that does not privatize the air traffic control system. The bill, which was passed by the House on Monday and the Senate today, is expected to be signed by the president prior to July 15, the date the current extension is set to expire.
