ERAM Complete

Today, PASS National President Mike Perrone and National Vice President Rich Casey  joined Department of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx and FAA Administrator Michael Huerta at a press conference recognizing the completion of En Route Automation Modernization (ERAM). ERAM has been deployed at 20 centers across the country and serves as a critical foundation of the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen).

PASS has been involved in the ERAM process from the outset and recently announced that the deployment was on target for completion. The project could not be considered such a success without the collaborative efforts of both PASS and the FAA, especially the work of ERAM Representative Javon Henry and others who participated during the deployment phase.

“I want to recognize the work of PASS members during this process,” said Perrone. “These employees participated in training, planning and testing activities. They addressed software issues, put in extra hours during the transitions—they did what needed to be done to help modernize the system and prepare it for the next stage of NextGen. We have some of the most dedicated, professional and highly skilled personnel who go the extra mile every time to get the job done. I’m proud to be celebrating their efforts today.”

ERAM, which allows for the process of critical data and information, will serve as the operating platform for other NextGen technologies, including Performance-Based Navigation (PBN), the Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) and Data Comm. ERAM, along with the support of PASS, truly is the backbone of modernization of the National Airspace System.

“This initiative has been an endeavor with some hurdles, challenges and ultimate success,” said Perrone. “None of this would have been possible if not for the dedicated work of FAA systems specialists represented by PASS and the collaboration between labor and management.”
